About the StakeHolders to Partners Project . . . .
The locally designed and owned Stakeholder to Partners Project will create an enhanced continuum of care between Greene County schools, the Juvenile Justice complex, and child-serving community mental health agencies. The Project will build the capacity of school and juvenile justice personnel to identify the early warning signs and symptoms of youth mental health and trauma issues, to make referrals for services, and to link youth to mental health resources in the community. The Project’s funding will provide supportive programming to enhance the safety and health of all students in our schools. The Project will build sustainable linkages between existing systems of care, reduce fragmentation, gaps, barriers, and redundancies, which impact the effective prevention, identification, referral, diagnosing, and treatment of children and adolescents with mental illnesses.

Brown Bag Trainings - Provided to educational personnel & Juvenile Justice staff during their regular workday, to increase their ability to recognize the early warning signs and symptoms of mental illness and trauma in youth before significant disruptions in functioning occur.

Pax Good Behavior Game - The PAX game provides a cost effective primary prevention model with proven long-term impact on mental health function, academic achievement, and substance abuse. The PAX game enhances teacher’s capacity to impact behavior and increase student availability, attention and focus to academic tasks.

Project BRITE STAR - “Bringing Realistic Information To Every Sensitive Teen At Risk” is a local chapter of the International Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention Program. This outreach programming is designed to increase youth awareness about depression and its link to teen suicide. Project BRITE STAR's curriculum is designed to be implemented as an annual one class period presentation in 7th-12th grades. The curriculum can easily be integrated into health, social studies and physical education classes. Many school districts have introduced the program through school-wide and grade level assemblies. Presentations for teachers and parents are also available.

Crisis Intervention Teams - The Project will enhance school districts’ capacity to respond to crisis situations. Project funds will provide ”Traumatic Event Crisis Intervention Plan - TECIP” training by Copes Consulting that is endorsed by Bill Steele of The Trauma and Loss Center. This gives districts the necessary tools and resources for practical, comprehensive and sustainable management of crisis situations they encounter. Training will enhance the ability of these team members to assess those reactions and symptoms that go beyond initial shock and grief and make rapid and informed referrals for mental health services in the community. The county wide FREE training will be held in the fall of 2011.

Advisory Committee - Comprised of community members, parents, teachers, community service partners and leaders, this Committee is focused on building a public health approach to childhood mental illness. The Committee will work to improve and enhance community linkages and collaboration, integration and stigma reduction efforts, and expand communication. The Committee will examine the needs, barriers, and gaps to and in mental health service delivery, and those between the entire community of child serving mental health agencies, schools and the juvenile justice system

Juvenile Justice Screening - The Project will work collaboratively with the juvenile justice systems to enhance the screening, referral and follow-up process of engaging youth with local community mental health services. This will ensure strong linkages between community mental health providers and the youth and families who are referred for services. A benefit to this will be a reduction in the duplication of services and an increase in access of services to youth.

Survey - one of the first initiatives of the Stakeholders to Partners project, in partnership with Wright State University’s Center for Urban and Public Affairs, was to survey staff in all public school buildings in Greene County to assess access to mental health services for children.

Cyber Bullying - An initiative of the Stakeholders to Partners Project is to develop strategies for dealing with Cyber Bullying. As part of this initiative, students in Richard Kayser's Information Technology class at the Greene County Career Center have developed a presentation addressing methods to prevent Cyber Bullying when using Facebook, Xbox, and PS3.
