This web page and the linked LPDC Handbook above have been written for GCESC employees who are required to work with the Local Professional Development Committee (LPDC). It is designed to answer questions you may have about the procedures and forms used for Licensure.
Topics covered in the LPDC Handbook:
Who must work with the LPDC?
How do I renew my current license?
What do I need to know about CEUs/contact hours?
What do I need to know about Individual Professional Development Plans (IPDPs)?
In 1996, Ohio’s General Assembly passed S.B. 230. This bill authorized the establishment of LPDCs. The purpose of the LPDC is to review the coursework & other professional development activities proposed and completed by ESC educators to determine if the requirements for renewal of licenses have been met. In order to make this process as efficient as possible, our LPDC, in general, does the following:
Approves CEUs/contact hours for workshops & other eligible activities offered by GCESC;
Approves CEUs/contact hours offered by other agencies through reciprocity;
Approves hours submitted from educators who need to renew licenses.
Approves coursework on an individual basis for credit offered by agencies not included on our reciprocity list; &
Approves IPDPs for our employees.
The GCESC LPDC develops the forms & procedures necessary to carry out these activities & operates under a set of Bylaws approved by the Governing Board of the GCESC. Additional information about LPDCs is contained in a resource guide, Resource Guide for Establishing & Maintaining Local Professional Development Committees, which is available through the Ohio Department of Education on their website—www.education.ohio.gov.
