LC Students SUCCEED in Fund Raiser for Leukemia

During March,  students at the Greene County Learning Center had the opportunity to learn first-hand the powerful feeling that comes from helping others. They are participating in “Pennies for Patients,” a service-learning program in which kids collect spare change to help people with blood cancer. This fundraiser was spearheaded by the group five staff: Kevin Harleman, Amy Eakins, and Jeff Conrad. The fundraiser lasted three weeks, ending on March 19, 2010.

Each year, thousands of schools join The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's School & Youth Programs to experience learning, fun, meaningful service and cooperative team work while joining in the fight against cancer. For more than 14 years, School & Youth Programs have given students the opportunity to experience the powerful feeling that comes from working together to help others. Schools raise awareness and funds in honor of local patients battling a blood cancer like leukemia. Since the inception of School & Youth Programs, more than $100 million has been raised for research and patient services.

Each student at the Greene County Learning Center was given a collection box to collect change for the fundraiser. The top three earning classrooms will receive a pizza party. The goal for the Greene County Learning Center is to raise $500. A huge thanks goes to Bob Bilbrey, Director of Technology, who donated bracelets from the Hendricks Marrow program to give to the students who are participating in this wonderful project.

FINAL CAMPAIGN RESULTS:  Thanks to all who supported and helped the students at the Greene County Learning Center in their "Pennies for Patients" campaign. After three weeks of hard work, the students at the Greene County Learning Center EXCEEDED THEIR $500 goal by raising a total of $865.25 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
