Annual Spelling Bee Challenges StudentsWinner goes on to Regional Spelling Bee
S-P-E-L-L-I-N-G B-E-E was not on the list of words to spell at the annual Greene County District Spelling Bee held Tuesday, January 19 at the Greene Educational Service Center; however Greene County students may have wished it had been. After winning their school bees, nine Greene County students took part in the annual district spelling bee. Competing in the bee was Ben Heath- Cedarville Elementary, Emily Wolf- Cedarville Middle School, Tommy Smith- Greeneview Intermediate (4-6), Katrina Borchers- Greeneview Intermediate (7-8), Anthony Lehmenkuler- St. Brigid, Elise Nicole Paietta- St. Luke, Hannah Helm- Xenia Christian, Hank Siefert- Xenia Tecumseh and Alice Miller- Yellow Springs Mills Lawn.
Standing alone in the winner's spot, after going back and forth in a spelling duel with the eventual runner-up, Emily Wolf, Cedarville Middle School, was Elise Nicole Paietta, a 6th grader from St. Luke. Havin spelled words such as ballerina, bungalow and curriculum, Elise correctly spelled fiend and was declared the winner of the 2010 Greene County District Spelling Bee.
Watching and cheering on all of the spellers were proud parents, friends, teachers and school spelling bee coordinators. Thanks to them and toall those who helped to make the bee a success.
The next step in the spelling bee future for Elise is participating in the Dayton Daily News Regional Spelling Bee February 27 at 10:00 a.m.at Sinclair College, Dayton, Ohio. Good luck to Elise and congratulations to all who competed in the district bee.
