
Autism / Basics and Practices that Work
As districts embrace inclusive practices, students with autism are integrated into the general classroom setting. Educators need to understand the characteristics of Autism so that they can provide strategies to support these students’ needs and so that they can maximize these students’ talents as they help them access the general curriculum. This workshop provides an introduction to working with students with autism and offers practical suggestions for supporting these students. Participants will: Be able to recognize and understand the characteristics and behaviors associated with Autism and Aspergers Syndrome. Learn best methodology principles that meet the needs of students with ASD. Understand how the sensory system and communication deficits affect the daily lives of students with ASD. September 28, 2010 8:30 am to 3:45 pm with 1 hour lunch on your own $50 per registrant payable to Greene ESC Graduate Credit Available as follows: Antioch University Midwest offers 1 qtr hour credit @ $120 for attendance at this one-day workshop (4-page reflection required). Ashland University offers 1 semester hour credit @ $180 for attendance at both this session and Approaches to Autism offered October 20, 2010. (Separate registration and 2-page reflection required for each workshop) Graduate credit is payable to the University on the day of the workshop.
